The school shares its Christian faith and tradition of service to the community by encouraging students to develop the skills and values which will enhance their lives, enrich their families and contribute to their neighborhood, city, and country. |

Transfiguration School was founded in 1832 by Father Felix Varela as a free school to serve the educational needs of New York's immigrant population. In 1923, Archbishop Hayes, an alumnus of the school, dedicated the present school building at 29 Mott Street. |

Historically, 95% of Transfiguration's graduate are accepted by all the Catholic high schools to which they apply. Approximately 50% are accepted by one of the three NYC Science High Schools: Stuyvesant High School, Bronx High School of Science and Brooklyn Technical High School. |
